ABOUT US
The Dusty Coin has a relatively short history, but I have been dealing in the coin collecting world since 1984. I became involved with coin collecting in an effort to find an area of common interest with my son. Unfortunately, it only held his attention for about 6 months, instead heading back to his comic book collection. I got hooked for a lifetime being drawn to the vast variety and uniqueness of United States coins dating back to the late 1700’s. Being a veterinarian by trade, I realized early on that I needed professional guidance to properly pursue my new found hobby. I solicited the help of one of my clients who was a major coin dealer for over 2 decades. He took me under his wing and taught me about coins and the business of coin collecting. What I anticipated would be a short course of learning turned into a 4-year educational process. Since those early days, I have continued expanding my knowledge and quickly came to the realization that it was easy to purchase any coin at a given price, but the challenge of selling parts of my collection was a totally different story. This was the driving force in opening The Dusty Coin. Trust and fairness should be the hallmark of any company and these values are at the cornerstones of our business. We do little advertising, so most of our clientele is generated by referrals. Developing a network of collectors has allowed The Dusty Coin to pay a fair price for collections and at the same time make an attempt to preserve old coins so they don’t end up being melted where they are lost forever. Our format is structured as a one-on-one business thus eliminating the need for a store front and the over-head expenses that are incurred. This enables us to offer higher prices for collectibles. In the past several years, The Dusty Coin has enjoyed rapid growth in other areas. The purchasing of sterling silver, bullion, gold jewelry, and old U.S. paper money now comprises over 40% of our business model. Our expanding national network has allowed us to be extremely competitive in these markets. Currently our company has a footprint in the Atlanta area and northern Tennessee. Being members of most of coin and paper money national organizations like PCGS and NGC, affords us daily access to current information, market trends and pricing. In today’s environment, we have seen an explosive expansion of Internet companies asking you to mail your valuables to them in the hope that their advertised promises are kept. In contrast, The Dusty Coin provides you a face-to-face environment of comfort and safety in which we will evaluate your collectibles and, in that process, offer you fair pricing. Please feel free to e-mail or call us with questions concerning any of your collectibles.
